How to Brew Tea
Here you'll find some tips on how to make the perfect cup or pitcher of each type of tea!
Food Safety Advisor:
We strongly recommend using filtered or freshly drawn cold water brought to a rolling boil when brewing all types of tea. Boiling the water will kill unwanted organisms and reduce the potential incidence of water-borne illnesses.
Steeping Time:
White Tea | 2-3 minutes |
Green Tea | 3-4 minutes |
Matcha | 3-5 minutes |
Black Tea | 4-5 minutes |
Rooibos & Chai | 5-7 minutes |
Herb & Fruit | 5-10 minutes |
Flower Tea | 5-10 minutes |
Hot Tea Brewing Method:
Bring filtered or freshly drawn cold water to a rolling boil. Place 1 ½ teaspoon of loose tea for each 7-9oz / 200-260ml of liquid in the teapot. Pour the boiling water into the teapot, cover, and let steep according to the type of tea. Brewing time might vary depending on the type of tea. The longer the steeping time, the stronger the tea; however, it might give you a bitter taste.
The ideal Brewing Temperature for most tea is 100ºC/212ºF.
The ideal Brewing temperature for Matcha, Oolong, and White tea is 85ºC/185ºF.
For Food Safety reasons bring water to 100ºC/212ºF and let it cool down to 85ºC/185ºF.

Iced Tea Brewing Method (Pitcher to Make 1 Liter/Quart):
Place 2 ½ tbsp of loose-leaf tea or 1 Iced Tea Pouch from Mama Wang’s Pantry into a teapot or heat resistant pitcher. Using filtered or freshly drawn cold water, boil and pour 1¼ cups / 315ml over the tea. Steep for 3-10 minutes depending on the type of tea. Drain the tea leaves and pour the brewed tea into your serving pitcher. Now add cold water and ice to top the pitcher. Garnish and sweeten to taste. A rule of thumb when preparing fresh brewed iced tea is to increase the strength of the hot tea brew since it will be poured over ice and diluted with cold water.
Iced Tea Brewing Method (Individual Serving):
Place 3g of loose-leaf tea or 1 tea bag into a heat resistant cup or mug for each serving required. Using filtered or freshly drawn cold water, boil and pour 6-7oz / 170-200ml per serving over the tea leaves. Cover and let steep for 4-5 minutes. Add hot tea to a 12oz / 375ml acrylic glass filled with ice, straining the loose-leaf tea or removing the bags. Not all the tea will fit, allowing for approximately an additional ½ serving. Sweeten and / or add lemon to taste. A rule of thumb when preparing fresh brewed iced tea is to increase the amount of tea leaves for stronger flavor.
